High salinity in Peruvian waters remains the main concern for the fishing industry. This phenomenon is blamed for the unusual distribution of anchovy and their poor body condition, factors that complicate expectations for the upcoming fishing season. Although these saltier waters have moved slightly offshore, they are still too close to key areas such as Chimbote, keeping the sector on alert.
At the same time, Sea Surface Temperature (SST) along the Peruvian coast shows mostly neutral conditions, with only minor anomalies. One element worth noting is a new “cold blob” now drifting East direction, that is changing the previously warm spot at the entrance of the Gulf of Guayaquil. Experts believe that emerging cold waters will soon bring temperatures back to Neutral levels or even below the historical records .
We have to say that this time the SST is not a problem, as experts forecast that the coming months are most likely going to be Neutral or having only small deviations.
