Peru’s Ministry of Production (Produce) has set the Maximum Total Catch Limit for Direct Human Consumption of anchovy for 2025 at 150,000 metric tons, applicable along the entire coastline. This regulation targets small-scale and artisanal fishing activities exclusively.
According to Ministerial Resolution No. 235-2025-PRODUCE, the total quota will be split into two periods: 75,000 tons from January 1 to July 31, and another 75,000 tons from August 1 to December 31, 2025. The regulation also states that any uncaught volume from the first period may be carried over to the second.
In addition, industrial processing facilities licensed for direct human consumption products—such as canned, frozen, or cured anchovy—are only authorized to receive volumes destined solely for these purposes. They must align with their installed processing capacity and production plans, ensuring proper storage and handling throughout the supply chain.
This measure reinforces the sustainable management of the anchoveta resource and guarantees compliance with the fishing laws for this species.
