Peru’s Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) increased the 2026 Total Allowable Catch Limit for jumbo flying squid to 709,659 MT, an exceptional level compared with 581,000 MT in 2023, 499,683 MT in 2024 and 609,935 MT in 2025. The 2026 quota is 22% higher than in 2023, 42% higher than in 2024 and 16% higher than in 2025.
According to PRODUCE’s latest official update, as of September 10, total squid landings had reached 654,224.11 MT, equivalent to 92.19% of the annual quota. For the period from August 30 to September 30, vessels with a storage capacity of 10 m³ or more had already used 90.94% of their allocated limit.
For processors, the higher availability of raw material could support supplies of squid for frozen and processed products, including squid meal. On the other hand, this huge volume has meant a sharp drop in the squid prices.
